Bourdain was a master of his craft both in the kitchen and the media. He brought a diversity of cultures and cuisines to viewers all around the world.

His generosity touched the lives of many. He contributed to charitable causes for kids such as by donating to a cancer patient’s foodie road trip, realising a lymphoma patient’s wish by meeting him, and selling his Ernst Benz watch online to help raise money for post-9/11 veterans.

Besides that, he hosted a benefit in March 2016 to support New York’s Urban Assembly Bronx Academy of Letters’ initiative of teaching students writing and communication skills for college.

Bourdain also went around the world documenting food waste and produced a film on the pressing issue entitled, “WASTED! The Story of Food Waste”. It highlights the economic and environmental impacts of waste and offers solutions to create a more sustainable food system.

He was also inspired by his girlfriend, Asia Argento, to become a strong advocate for the #MeToo movement.

In January, Bourdain appeared on The Daily Show and credited Argento with introducing him to other women with “extraordinary stories.”

He devoted several of his tweets to the #MeToo movement, especially after Argento’s story broke online. He commended her for “doing the hardest thing in the world.”

He said, “I stand unhesitatingly and unwaveringly with these women. Right now, nothing else matters but women’s stories of what it’s like in the industry I have loved and celebrated for nearly 30 years – and our willingness, as human beings, citizens, men and women alike, to hear them out, fully, and in a way that other women can feel secure enough, and have faith enough that they, too, can tell their stories.”
